A Biblical Philosophy of Ministry

INTRODUCTION
If we are to be faithful leaders, we must work diligently to develop a philosophy of ministry that is basically
strategic and biblical. This seminar will present the points of
a philosophy of effective ministry.
Under this objective, it is appropriate to consider the following questions:
• What should encourage a particular ministry?
• Are there different ways that you can take to have an effective ministry?
• How do you determine what should be done?
• How to develop a ministry that is biblically successful?
I. DEFINITION OF A BIBLICAL PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY
What is a philosophy of ministry and why it is so important to define clearly?
A. DEFINITION GENERAL
A philosophy of ministry is a set of unchanging principles that determine how it will work
ministry. In short, his philosophy of ministry defines why
of what he does.
B. SPECIFIC DEFINITION
A biblical philosophy of ministry is a set of biblical principles that guide NOT NEGOTIABLE
all choices and decisions in his ministry.
philosophy of ministry must be obtained from a thorough investigation of the
explicit teaching of Scripture and the implicit METHODOLOGY
can be obtained by observing how the ministry was in the early church. Of course, no discussion
the teachings of the Scriptures, both explicit and implicit, can
take place outside of the proper exegetical and hermeneutical control.
When you are able to define the philosophy of ministry in this crucial way, you not only
know why he does what he is doing, but how.
2
II. THE BENEFITS OF A PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY
A. Develop a management unit.
Once your philosophy of ministry has been firmly established, this
seeps into the rest of the congregation to develop a consistent approach when ministering.
also works to promote ongoing communication purpose and direction of global
.
B. It forces you to determine your goals each month and year to year with a firm understanding
global biblical ministry in mind.
III. DEVELOPMENT OF A PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY
Everyone has a philosophy of ministry, whether perceived or understood,
is clearly defined, that is biblically consistent or not. How is a philosophy of ministry?
A. INAPPROPRIATE APPROACH
1. Start with the focus on programs
a. Trying to replicate a "model program."
Problem: This will lead to frustration and failure, specifically because
that God chooses to work
each situation varies depending on the nature and needs
people, and the uniqueness of each case. B.
Continue with an existing program (ie
do what we do because we have always done so, or because it worked once.)
Problem: This will lead to frustration and failure because
people and their needs change constantly.
2. Start with the focus on the needs.
a. Ask people what they want.
Problem: When you focus on felt needs,
always ends with a program
supercial and socially oriented. B.
To draw people through to please them.
Problem: When you focus on felt needs, provided
3
will have a ministry focused on the man rather than God.
3. Start by setting goals
a. Establish goals to achieve "success."
Problem: When you start by setting goals,
're always conform to their vision of success, and
is right or wrong. This can lead to
confuse size with success, ie, bigger is better. B.
Set goals based on incorrect assessments of the
congregation.
Problem: When goals are not need-based
"real", although these may be practicable,
always lead to a superficial Christianity.
B. THE RIGHT APPROACH
MINISTRY SHOULD BE BASED ON A BIBLICAL BASIS RIGHT.
THIS BASIS (PHILOSOPHY) PROVIDES THE FRAMEWORK WITHIN WHICH CAN BE EVALUATED
EVERYTHING you do.
ELEMENTS OF A BIBLICAL BASIS:
1. A high concept of God
a. God is holy and righteous (and other perfections). B.
We must seek to express his communicable attributes. Eg
... so we should be holy (sanctification practice).
NOTE: FAILURE NOT HAVE A HIGH CONCEPT OF GOD LEADS TO
:
• The tolerance of sin.
• Focus on the man, as evidenced in teaching
and programs.
RESULTS: The church reflects a man-centered ministry that tries to please
equal, up to glorify God.
Questions to consider:
• My teaching focuses on
promote the sanctity of God or the comfort of man?
4
• Do you play our biblical church discipline (Matthew
18)?
• Do people have reverence for God's character?
• How to compromise truth to please the people
or maintain the status quo?
COMMITMENT TO A HIGH CONCEPT OF GOD WILL TAKE HIS WORD
SEE HOW THE PERFECT GUIDE TO OUR LIVES ...
2. The statement the word of God.
a. Inspiration-verbal, plenary inspiration (2 Tim. 3:16, 2 Pet. 1:20-21).
is "exhaled" by God. B.
Infallible contains no error. God communicated truth to
divinely chosen individuals. And what they wrote did not deviate
original formulation of the truth of the way
existed in the mind of God (Ps. 19). C.
Authority-in short, do what I say! (Ps. 119).
If we have a biblical philosophy of ministry, this should look
its sole authority in the Word of God. As John MacArthur has written
The second truth is not negotiable which forms the backbone of the church
is the absolute authority of Scripture.
The Bible is constantly under attack even from within the church ...
The Bible is being attacked openly.
In my opinion, I think the Charismatic
attack the Bible when they add their visions and revelations. It is a subtle attack
and often unintentional, but nevertheless is an attack.
They say that Jesus told them this and God said that.
They are undermining the Bible when they consider the only
authority. Those who believe that God speaks to
regularly through special messages to individual Christians
trivialize His Word. God reveals
mainly through the pages of Scripture, and such disclosure must be written
maintained as the absolute authority ...
One of the worst assaults on the Word of God comes from people who say
Bible-believing but do not know what this
teaches. This kind of attack is more subtle. People throughout the world
says he believes the Bible from beginning to end but do not know
or a paragraph of it. How can they believe in what you do not know? 5
Jesus said, "Do not just live by bread alone but by every word
that comes from the mouth of God" (Matt. 4:4). If we
fed by every word that comes the mouth of God, we must study
every word. (The Master's Plan for the Church [Chicago: Moody
, 1991], pp. 26-27) d.
Sufficiency-(2 Pet. 1:3-4, Psalm 19, 2 Tim. 3:17, Heb. 4:12).
The belief in the sufficiency of Scripture
prohibits any attempt to integrate it with psychology or worldly philosophies. E.
"It's totally relevant relevant to each situation (Ps. 19, 2 Tim.
3:17, Ps 119:105, Isa. 40:8).
can not give an explicit answer to every specific problem,
but always gives us the principles by which we can, through obedience
, glorify God.
NOTE: FAILURE TO recognize the inspiration, infallibility,
authority, sufficiency, and relevance of the word leads
to:
• Find comfort in place of obedience
• Personal experience as
authority rather than the Word of God.
• contemporary thought as the guide for life instead
of the principles of divine truth.
RESULTS: The church produces people who pursue their own standards-based
wicked desires.
The result of this essential component, a proper perspective of the Scriptures
will be the commitment to teaching sound doctrine, and therefore as
Cristianne must change and grow. Of Again,
MacArthur says
If you have a high view of God and is committed to
El, one must adhere to what His Word teaches. The
teachings of the Word of God drawing up a solid
doctrine.
Today, many Christians have a vague doctrine.
Many pastors offer "sermonitos for Cristianità ,"
short sermons that are pleasing and interesting. Sometimes, these sermons
can make you feel good, sad or excited. But rarely heard
teaching or discussion of the doctrine. Very few
preachers explain the truth about God, life, death
, heaven, hell, man sin, Christ, angels
6, the Holy Spirit, the believer's position, meat, or
world. Truths that we need to grab.
need to read a text, find out what it says and means, get the truth
plant that divine truth in the minds of people through
repeat ... The fact is that people need a solid doctrine in which they can build
their lives. (The Master's Plan for the
Church [Chicago: Moody, 1991], p. 27).
Questions to consider: • Is subject
its people with willingness and humility to the authority of the Word
?
• How close do the lives of its people to the Word?
• Are you teaching the Word so that people can
apply in their lives?
• Will God's Word for answers to people's problems
?
THE REPRESENTATIONS OF THE WORD OF GOD IS THE BASIS OF A BIBLICAL VISION
HUMANITY ...
3. A proper anthropology.
a. Mankind is totally depraved.
• You can not do anything good for yourself (Rom. 3:10-18).
• Your heart is deceitfully wicked (Jer. 17:9-10).
• Their continuing goal in life is only
selfish and evil (Gen. 6:5). B.
Man was created to glorify God, but because of their sin,
seeks to glorify himself (Rom. 3:23).
NOTE: The sinner is far from God, and as a result
seek satisfaction in the evil system of the world (1 John 2:15-17).
The implications are worrying:
• Christ will be seen as the only solution to the needs of
man.
• It will provide substitutes that promise satisfaction and improved self-concept
.
7
• It will address the needs "felt" rather than real.
RESULTS: The church produces people who make decisions to solve problems
their lives based on what they believe cover
a practical way of their perceived needs.
Questions to consider:
• Is the goal of teaching the
confront sin and see God change lives, or to please people and make them feel good about them
pampering?
• Are your people more like Christ today than a
a year? Can you measure your spiritual progress?
• Are you living a life of total dependence on God
as a model for his people?
THE KNOW THIS ALLOWS U.S. TO FORMULATE A MINISTRY SEEKS TO MEET THE NEEDS
REAL, NOT ONLY THE COLLECTED
. THEREFORE, THE GOAL IS ALL TRUE MINISTRY
GUIDE TO THE PEOPLE A more
DEEP WITH GOD THROUGH OBEDIENCE TO HIS WORD.
RIGHT MAN CONCEPT ALLOWS
CORRECTLY UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE OF THE CHURCH ...
4. A correct understanding of the purpose of the Church.
a. The Church exists to praise and glorify God (1 Cor. 10:31;
Heb. 13:15). B.
The Church exists to be a recipient of divine truth (1 Tim. 3:15). C.
The Church exists to provide a context of loving communion with each other
the purpose of mutual edification (Eph. 3:16-19, 4:12 -
16). D.
The church exists as a training center, through which people can grow
to through the application of teaching and the use of their spiritual
gifts (1 Cor. 12-14; Rom. 12 Eph. 4). E.
The Church exists to be light in a dark world for the
evangelization of God's elect (Matt. 5:13-16, 28:19-20, Titus 2:11 -
15).
NOTE: The failure to understand the purpose of the church correctly carried a ministry
superficial and false, which is at variance,
be glorified "program success" instead of God. The
8
people become passive spectators rather than participants
assets. Which forces the leadership to do everything to keep the programs running
.
RESULTS: The church becomes an organization led by men and
programs instead of being a Christian organization committed
empowered by the Spirit of God.
Questions to consider:
• How would you define a "successful ministry?
• Do you find yourself stuck in "the tyranny of the urgent
?"
• Have you discovered that devotes most of his time
to put out fires?
• Is being equipped and motivated his people
to exercise their spiritual gifts?
• "Turn the environment ministry structure maintenance program
or to build the character in the lives of his people
? A sensible perception
PURPOSE OF THE CHURCH HELPS
CORRECTLY UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF LEADERSHIP BIBLE ...
5. Godly leadership and qualified.
This is: a.
Leaders must reflect the character of Christ to be models for the congregation
(1 Thess. 2:4-12, 1 Tim. 3:1-13, Tit. 1:5-9, 1 Pet. 5:1 - 5). B.
Leaders must prepare their people adeduadamente for
work of ministry (Ephesians 4:12). C.
Leaders must provide diverse opportunities to make this
work (Heb. 10:24-25).
NOTE:
• The failure to understand correctly
biblical leadership leads to a discipleship that is not biblical, that shapes and distorts
ministerial priorities.
• The lack of biblical priorities
ministry leads to sin, with a focus on skills instead of
9
godly character. This can lead to sins that disqualify.
• Lack of adequate preparation for the task
leads to frustration, which can often produce a change
lay leadership.
• Lack of adequate preparation
leads to failure of development in the ministry, resulting in a
few "faithful" doing all the work. CONCLUSION
A philosophy ministry well articulated, that is biblical, it is vital to "make
ministry the way God wants." It is crucial that this philosophy of ministry is the filter through which pass
all decisions of his ministry.
develop it ... absorb it ... live it ... and show it to people. Statement of purpose
